Final Word 2016

75 more days until you join us at DCHS for the

FINAL WORD 2016!

I know that seems like a long time, but time flies! There are lots of things to fill this time up quickly, EXAMS, new semesters, March Break and Easter! I hope you are enjoying reading the books on this years list. This years guest author is Ted Staunton!

Author Ted StauntonSince his 1983 debut with Puddleman, one of Canada’s most perennially popular picture books, Ted Staunton has been entertaining readers of all ages with funny and perceptive stories of childhood, teen, and family life in many books.
He has been nominated for many awards, including the Silver Birch, Red Maple, Hackmatack and Arthur Ellis awards and is the winner of the 2014 John Spray Mystery Award for his YA novel Who I’m Not(see below).
Trained as a teacher, Ted is also a speaker, performer, and workshop leader in schools, libraries and venues across Canada.
As well, Ted teaches the Writing for Children courses at George Brown College and the Haliburton School of the Arts. Since 2010, as a volunteer with CODE Canada, he has also travelled to Ethiopia several times to work with English language writers and editors for young people there.

When not writing, Ted likes to perform with the MAPLE LEAF CHAMPIONS JUG BAND. (He brings his guitar and banjo to school presentations as well.) He also enjoys running, reading and listening to music. Ted and his family live in Port Hope, Ontario.

Who I'm Not

Winner of the 2014 Td / CCBC John Spray Mystery Award
Finalist for the 2014 Arthur Ellis Award
Finalist, 2014 BC Stellar Teen Choice Award

(Orca Books) Trying to dodge trouble, a teen con artist lands in the midst of it when he claims to be a long missing child from Ontario and is accepted by his new “family”. Part mystery thriller, part black comedy, Who I’m Not wrestles with the key question for us all: identity.
“…takes off like a rocket and continues its upward trajectory right to the very last page...This book is a knockout, and that’s no con.” –Quill & Quire, starred review
“Readers aren’t sure whether or not they can trust the main character and that makes the journey all the more exhilarating…Breathless, fast paced fun.” –Kirkus Reviews
“Reluctant readers will be receptive to this gripping tale about identity and resilience, written in clear language. –School Library Journal

Welcome to the 2016 Book Club

WELCOME to another year of CHS bookclub! On this blog we will share our impressions of the novels that we have read and hopefully have some discussion between the schools. There will also be periodic postings of new information when it becomes found.
FINAL WORD 2016 will be held on Tuesday March 29, 2016 at Durham Christian High School in Bowmanville, we look forward to having you join us.

Tuesday 16 June 2015

CHS bookclub, what does that mean or even stand for? CHS stands for Christian high school book club, we are a group of Christian high schools in Ontario, Canada, that read books from the list of ten books selected for that year. Each year we meet as a larger group, enjoying the celebration of reading and meeting one of our authors as a guest. There is travel, good food and an interesting presentation by an author, what more could you ask for?
